SHINING LIGHT ONTO THE DARKNESS
SATURDAY DECEMBER 15 - 12-5PM

In keeping with the seasonal return of the light from the dark time of the year, we will explore what is “dark” and “light” for each of us in our lives. How do we see and feel about the darkness? Is it something to be dreaded and feared or is it simply the unknown, what we might view as the “mystery” or perhaps something “lost,” with awe, wonder and curiosity? How do we rediscover what is lost and/or hidden? There are just as many stories to be told in the dark spots as there are in the bright ones.
We will weave together the connection of our inner dynamic fluid selves through the Continuum processes of breath, sound and movement, with the play of our dreams and dreamtime imagery, ritual and expressive arts.

In this retreat day, we will explore the physical, emotional and spiritual realm of relationship and of the heart. Not “who we are” but “where we are” and how we connect to “other” (people and the environment). How do we isolate and separate ourselves through beliefs, cultural values and habitual patterns and then how do we let go of these via the powerful field of the heart?

Awakening the Body of Creativity
Continuum and Art with Barbara Mindell
Sept 28-30, 2007 Vancouver
The creative process moves from an internal source that is both mysterious and transformative. Art is a silent footprint of your inner journey. What are the deep roots of your creativity? We will learn how to combine the fertile field of Continuum movement with process-oriented techniques in drawing, painting or collage in order to awaken your creative self expression.
AREAS OF EXPLORATION
- DIVING into the primal depths of fluidity and space in your body to inform new possibilities in movement and art
- OPENING yourself to the passions of the creative force as it flows through you, sensing and working directly from your movement experience onto the page
- DISCOVERING other ways of seeing and perceiving
- SPONTANEOUSLY creating personal imagery, shapes and textures that speak directly to the larger mystery of our lives
- MOVING past fears and old patterns, bringing to life parts that have been or frozen or hidden
The focus will be on how, through this painting/movement experience, we discover we are the process underneath the story. Individual guidance and specific personal issues will be addressed. It is not necessary to come to this process with preconceived ideas of specific images or techniques. Basic art supplies list will be available. However, you are encouraged to bring your own and a suggested list will be sent upon registration.
Participants at all levels are welcome, no previous art or movement experience is required - only the spirit of adventure.

Barbara Mindell is an artist and educator who teaches the art of transformation as a bodily process. She has 30 years Continuum experience with close mentorship with Emilie Conrad, Continuum founder. Barbara had a profound life/death experience as a young adult that brought her into the world of healing and regeneration. Through her work with Continuum, her metamorphosis from injury to wholeness has become a catalyst for healing. Barbara is an Authorized Continuum Teacher, is on the staff at the Continuum Studio in Santa Monica, CA and teaches Continuum workshops, classes and a combination of Continuum, Art and The Creative Process throughout the U.S. and Canada. She has a private practice in Los Angeles.
